Poets Writers This magazine is a great resource for writers, including information on contests, calls for submissions, and articles about all stages of the writing process. And their Facebook page keeps you plugged into daily writerly news, information, and writerly inspiration. 2. Banned Books Week The Facebook page for Banned Books Week provides information on injustices within the literary world, currently banned books, and breaking stories on censorship. 3. TED Writers need inspiration. We need new information and points of view, and TED Talks are a great way to get that inspiration  right on your Facebook timeline. 4. NaNoWriMo NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) isnt just limited to the month of November. The Facebook page for NaNoWriMo keeps the party going by posting quotes, writing prompts, and information about programs within NaNoWriMo. 5. Writers Write For more quotes, fun words (hello, vocabulary building), and writing prompts, check out the page for Writers Write. 6. Letters of Note When living a life of letters, its important to remember that writing includes communication namely, letters. Tim Blake Nelson’s film â€Å"O†, modernised the original Elizabethan play Othello into a 21st century American film to suite the values and society of the modern audiences. It becomes noticeable in the film that Hugo is always disconnected and shows his deceptiveness through manipulating Odin. Hugo’s family relationship highlights his jealousy for Odin as his own father, who is also the coach of the basketball team, devotes more time and shows only love for Odin rather than his own son. The mother’s facial expression portrays the innocence and weak female, whilst the father appears more dominant and confident. The awkwardness between family members show that Hugo is living in a unnatural and unloving environment which causes him to have resentment against Odin for taking his fathers love away. This provides us a reason why Hugo might hate Odin so much. In contrast, Iago shows jealousy towards Othello, but he is not jealous because of his profession, it is just the fact that a dumber, black person is giving orders to him to do things. Shakespeare emphasis Iago’s hatred for Othello because his simply black and different. We only know that Iago is simply evil and deceptive from the beginning. But, Tim Blake Nelson interprets in a different way by giving us the clue of Hugo’s jealousy thus manipulating the audience to have some sympathy for the antagonist as well. Also throughout the film, Tim Blake Nelson purposely makes Hugo to be disconnected from others to separate him. This is illustrated in the scene when the basketball team is having a meeting in a room and Hugo is noticeably furthest away from his father and rest of the teammates, crouching near the door by himself. The use of long shot of Hugo represents his disconnection with others as it shows Hugo’s the nearby surroundings to exhibit that no one is sitting near him and thus suggesting that he is separated from others all the time. This is comparable with the original text and Iago’s disconnectedness with others. The use of soliloquy by Iago throughout the text shows the power of being aside. He purposely separates himself to talk about his deceptive plans to manipulate Othello and, it is apparent that Iago is the only one that has a soliloquy. Puritans and Sex Essay In The Puritans and Sex by Edmund S. Morgan, the author explores some of the stereotypes and misconceptions about the puritans and their thoughts on sex. Many people believe that the puritans thought that sex was something to be frown upon and was a necessary evil. However after reading this article your opinion may be changed. The Puritans and Sex should be read by students of an American history course because it offers deeper insight of the puritans’ view of sex. The article begins by stating that the puritans came to America to set a model for the Anglican Church. In order to accomplish this, the puritans had to have many laws that were supposed to be met with harsh punishment. Among these laws were many against sexual crimes, which were among the most frequent crimes. Despite the numerous laws discouraging adultery and other sexual actions the puritans did not discourage sex, on the contrary the puritans believed that â€Å"the use of the marriage bed is founded in man’s nature†(p 18) and that if people were denied sex that it would lead to other, worse crimes such as bestiality. They actually had a certain amount of sympathy and understanding. They were so understanding that the charges in one domestic violence case, where a man had beat and kicked his wife, were dropped because the court thought â€Å"[hey, maybe she had it coming]†(p 27) I believe students should read this article because it shows the method to the madness of the puritans. Pretty much all my life I had not cared to even bother to really study the puritans because I thought I had known everything I needed to know, which was that they were extremely boring, gave the death penalty for any behavior they particularly did not care for, and never did anything wrong. Although I still do not wish to become an expert on puritans I now have a very different look on them. The author’s purpose was â€Å"to point out the puritans, those bogeymen of the modern intellectual, are not responsible for [the squeamishness of the facts of life]. † (p 17) The author was very successful in his objective. The author’s use of actual court documentations furthers the author’s effectiveness. Anyone can just say that people have it all wrong about the puritans but the historical proof is what really changed my perception. The Puritans and Sex offers insight into the reasoning behind the puritans feelings and laws toward sex. The author uses historical evidence to help show that the puritans were humans just like everyone else. After reading this my views on the puritans have changed and I recommend it to anyone taking an American History class.
